  2. Graphite has many forms: RESSA RPB graphite based intumescent seal is driven by chemical reaction, giving a longer and more controllable expansion. Graphites in today’s markets are variable in the pressure formulation and can be almost prescribed to suit, a feature RYZW simply cannot match.

Intumescent materials are a core component of passive fire protection, and can be categorised as substances that swell when exposed to heat. This reaction is used to great effect in order to seal penetrations in otherwise fire resistant walls, floors and ceilings. An intumescent strip (or intumescent seal) is a piece of material fitted around a doorway that when exposed to heat, expands closing any gaps around the door to stop the fire spreading for a period of time…..

This is why it’s best to have your fire doors fitted with intumescent seals that can stop both fire and smoke. These act to provide an additional role to reduce the sound which can travel between the door and frame, or door and floor. Uninterrupted intumescent strips should be fitted into the frame or lining, where possible. If this cannot be achieved, the intumescent seals may be fitted into the door edge.

In the event of a serious fire, fire doors are one of the most important components in ensuring safe exit, containing the fire and saving lives. But they can be rendered useless by not using the correct components including intumescent strip. Gaps around the four sides of a fire door leaf are essential, it is the only way the door can open and close. But these gaps create a point of weakness, where fire can take hold and destroy the door, and toxic and smoke can pass through. RESSA intumescent strip works by sealing around the edges and gaps of a fire door and door frames in the event of a fire.

Over-painting of intumescent seals should not compromise performance in a fire situation – however, do not paint over smoke seals as this will certainly compromise smoke containment performance. If the smoke seal part of the seal has already been painted over, you will need to replace the smoke seal. Our seals are available in a range of colours, plus woodgrain and metallic finishes, so over-painting should not be necessary.

Usuallly for the gun safes and fire safes, we suggest both intumescent fire strips and waterproof seals.
